Can YOU Name That Porn?
You can still post as anon. Reload after login
Indeed, upvote to you! most only upload a picture, which sometimes is even some blurry screenshot from a actual video they've been looking.. instead of the actual video,
and then also dont give any info, or even only say "link?" or "HD/Full vid"..
and it true that (nearly) always only give what they are actually asking for kinda because of that..
I could also go search for the full info and context of the scenes or something like that just like Dr_PreX mostly does,
respect to him btw for always also searching for that info when possible, and also for the commitment http://photo.l99.com/emoji/thumbsup.png
but when people ask for something without giving any info,
then i guess they dont want any other info either then just a name or anything..
but this is also because most ppl that upload things are not even "members",
which 9 out of 10x means they ask something check a few times for a awnser and they're gone..
but then mostly never "thank" or even mark it as correct.
also like you said, i also do this for fun.. its like some sort of puzzle that starts with only one piece, and you have to search through your whole house to find the other pieces.
thats why i always like to awnser your questions know-way because you give the info you know, and also give like your own little "story" to it..
which also sometimes actually makes me search for those kinda questions,
instead of the "link?" or others like those which i sometimes then just skip unless they might be of my own interest also..
..but ofc, on the other side i also understand that this is not really meant to be some "social forum" kinda website,
which means that maybe im expecting a little to much from the questioners.. or atleast some..

I know the idea behind this thread is to clear up questions on Name That Porn, but now I felt like blowing off some steam!
I wanted to talk about Courtesy on this site. Or really, the absence of it.
Just ran into:
My heart was warmed that Biloute took a moment to thank his answerer. But why should that have had such an effect on me? Shouldn't it be common to thank someone who has done you a good turn? The answer is... on this site, such tokens of appreciation are very, very rare.
That implies a degree of arrogance on the part of the questioner, doesn't it? The attitude of most is, here; let me dash off a usually thoughtlessly worded post for you, one that I put no research into in order to help you, and see what you can do with it. After all, that is your JOB!
I've made some references to the lack of courtesy in the past, and because I shoot off my mouth on a site where most say as few words as possible, of course I must be offending some - and some go for retribution in the case of the "Downvote" button.
I recently became aware of the growing size of the downvoting number on my Profile Page; now don't get me wrong, my attitude normally is, "Who cares." But I started to think about the psychology of why someone should reach for the downvote button.
if someone is being a real jerk, and contributing nothing, that's one thing. (And I have not encountered this sort of a "troll" here at all.) But if someone is trying to give of his time and try to help, and help consistently, what kind of ... "Lack of Courtesy" ... is that, to hit the downvote button?
We can't know what cowardly phantoms hit the downvote button (nor can we know the valiant hearts who use the upvote button), and this is an issue I hope the Operator will remedy one day. I made a remark about the value of tracking down the source, in the comments below.
Legancy also referred to the mild curiosity stirred by the downvoting. Legancy has been a real gentleman, and he often offers pure information without editorial comment, so why would anyone downvote Legancy? I can understand how a big mouth like me can get on people's nerves, but ... Legancy??? This is mind-boggling.
Today, I finally noticed a downvote for one of my posts:
In this case, I could see there was a legitimate reason, as I was careless, and provided some wrong information. I wrote as such, but then added a further comment that maybe the downvote wasn't deserved, because The Question Asked was Answered Appropriately.
Then I started to think, what is the motivation for the downvoter? Those of you who have been gallant enough to take up the cause and devote their time to helping others with their questions -- especially on a regular basis -- know how much time it takes to do the research.
It takes a lot more time for me, I'll bet, because I'm not as talented as some of the wizards we have around here. Sometimes when one lead jumps to another and the minutes keep growing... and growing... when at the end I start thinking what an idiot I've been to spend all of this time (but you know, it's a trap! Once you start, you've sunk in the quicksand and you've got to keep going until you find the answer), and why I've been doing it...
I don't know what the incentive of the others are, but I'd bet the reasons aren't far from mine. We have an appreciation for porn, and there is an element of fun. Like solving a crossword puzzle. So fun is a reason. What else is a reason? Ego? To rack up the points? Well, that would be pathetic. Here we are, working anonymously, and who cares about the points, really, It's not like we can brag to anyone about our "accomplishments."
So I can't think of any other reason besides "fun." Can you?
But that fun can be short-lived when you're among a bunch who show no appreciation, and worse, choose to criticize those whose intentions are nothing but good.
Lack of Courtesy ... that's what I'm talkin' about.

hi!
the number 2/"heart" symbol is indeed for the amount of fav's the post has..
but the 3/"word balloon" symbol as you call it, indicates the amount of comments/reactions on the question.
all others are correct, or atleast as far as i know ofc :D

I noticed some members had implemented the "Following" feature, and I wanted to do that, too.
The trouble is, it took me a long time to figure out how to do that. This is my tragedy, I can be slow.
When I figured it out, I thought I'd spell out the "secret" in case others were similarly in my clueless club:
http://picsee.net/upload/2014-12-21/e62079033aa7.jpg
"Following" is the third box from the right (among the doo-dads directly underneath the title), with (in the above example) the number "1."
Perhaps we ought to unlock the mysteries of the other features while we're here. From the left:
1) The "307" designates the number of times the page has been viewed.
2) The thing with the "Heart" symbol; is that the number of times the post/thread has been favorited? (Boy am I dumb.)
3) The thing with the "Word Balloon" symbol; is that the number of times the post/thread is being followed? (Boy, am I dumb and dumber.)
4) The "30 days ago" designates the time the post/thread has been up. (I'm back to just dumb now.)
The rest are easier to get, as a mouse-hover pops up an explanatory message.
5) Upvote: if you like the post/thread.
6) Downvote: if you DON'T like the post/thread. (I wonder how often this one is put into use? Guess if a post/thread is especially stupid, or sometimes questioners don't check if their image or video has made it through in good working fashion? I guess one reason to make one's displeasure be known is if a questioner has REPEATED the question immediately after asking the same question. And, boy, won't that questioner feel ashamed.)
7) "Follow this post," as spelled out above.
8) "Favorite this post" -- Now what is the point of this one? Isn't that the same as Upvoting, to indicate you like the post/thread? (Great. I'm back to dumb and dumber, again.)
9) "Flag this post" to signal an inappropriate entry.
Our tireless operator has indicated in his post below that he was thinking of implementing a Bookmarking feature. I guess he has thought better of it? Perhaps it would be redundant, since "Following" is a way of "Bookmarking." (With the difference that the former sends "notifications, when event is triggered inside the post." I'm looking forward to see how that will work.)
EDIT:
Hey, I just discovered something new!
When you click on your username at the top of the pages, a menu now comes up with:
"My Profile"
"Settings"
"Logout"
"Messages" (Wow!)
"Favorites"
"Followings"
Boy, that operator of ours! Always coming out with great new features.

Following and bookmarking posts buttons are implemented for the registered users.
I currently did two separate features.
Following - You will receive notifications, when event is triggered inside the post
Bookmarking - You will save good posts for later use.
Momentarily you cannot see your bookmarks or followings yet. But you will shortly. So if you guys can, try the buttons out and let me know, if they are firing correctly.

Actually scratch that last one. Events wont get reset.
Votes are now visible in your profile tab. However, they currently show your new votes. As the old ones are not synced. They will one day.

Warning in advance. If the notifications and more user events gets done. I might reset them. Points, levels or anything else wont get affected, but for some time your old account related feeds, will be gone. Till I make a sync script for them.
Remember, we are still in BETA.

Thank you for the excellent suggestions! I'm glad to inform you that all of the things you mentioned are already in the works as we speak.
Private Messaging
May take a while before it will be fully implemented, but this is something that is high on our priority list and will definitely be introduced to NTP at some point. Along with a level-based access chatbox.
View your profile
This is obviously an essential feature and will be implemented soon. Currently clicking on your username on the top right corner will perform a logout. This will be replaced by a dropdown menu - where you can go to your profile, settings or log out.
On a semi-related note, we are also working on notifications. So the user would receive notifications, in case there's been updates in any of the questions, threads they've participated in and if someone addresses them via @ function. In the future, there will be also the ability to control to some extent, what type of updates you wish to receive.
View your comments that have been up/down voted
This will also be implemented soon. You will be able to see a list of your comments/answers that have received either up or down votes. However, at this point, you will not be able to see by who.

Hi there!
not really a question and not sure if it has already been suggested before,
and dont know if it is even possible..
1. but wouldnt it maybe be hmm "better" in some cases to bo able to send each other messages?
now we sometimes have to communicate through posts,
in the hope that the person its meant for gets to read it.
2. the same thing as i believe know-way already said,
to be able to see the up/down votes..
maybe not even with a name, but to see where and for what you got it.
3. and final one (for now) O:)
a button somewhere to easily go to your profile for everybody,
because now i believe people are only able to view the profile when in the top10 or by clicking on your name if you made a comment or anything
Greetings! :)
oops.. did i post this at the wrong thread? :$

@ Lozjo
Thank you for notifying us.
There is no relation between the two sites. I've looked into this and it seems Google has mistakenly indexed some of the references to our site on namethatpornstar.com
Original thread where the reference in question was posted:
http://www.namethatpornstar.com/thread.php?id=340349
This is most likely due to how namethatpornstar.com deals with outgoing links. Notice the /click.php?url= in the link you provided. This causes Google to think that the reference is a part of the namethatpornstar.com site, while it's really an outgoing link.

Dear Operator, when you get the chance, you may want to combine these two:
http://namethatporn.com/pornstars/ava-addams.html
http://namethatporn.com/pornstars/ava-adams.html
("Ava Adams" has been misspelled.)
As for the post below, are you sure this thread was the best place to ask an I.D. question, Felixvilla00?

@Know-way
Was it only today and today only? We have a very complex ad system setup, so it wouldn't affect so much the community, but would get the money from people, who just pass by. Today it seems, that there were some funny anomaly's with out code minifiers. It maybe because of that.
Sadly of course, Google saw it too, and we are currently working on some major issues. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
But Know-way, you are very helpful for our site. Is there any way, we can talk privately. The e-mail that you registered from, is it OK if we contact you from there? Or is it a fake one for only this site? We will be contacting you with our domain name in the email, so I'm asking in advance, if its OK.
Please let me know.

Operator, you have done a phenomenal job, particularly regarding the new Pornstar directory and the links from the posts/threads that lead to it. You and Sir Don are very talented.
Dr_PreX makes a fine point below, and maybe one day you will fine-tune your excellent execution of grouping the actresses the way you have done. Right now, I'm sure you need to recover from the great effort you have put out, not just for this, but in revamping parts of the system.
It's also unusual that you and Don took the issues that have been raised on this thread and have cleared them up in record time.
(Still some kinks, though... as to be expected. For example, I have noticed my I.D. information with the numbers next to the little blue circle are up-to-date in some places, but I've now noticed that it is not updated in my posts below.)
You obviously have a degree of commitment and passion for your web site that is almost touching.
And you have such a great site, too. I suppose many here are aware of your "competitor," Name That Porn Star... a well-meaning site, but cannot compare, as far as what Name That Porn has to offer.
=================================
I have two issues to declare.
Today, when I clicked on the "Show all" link, I kept getting redirected to an ad page. In the past, once in a while, I have noticed an ad pop-up - but it only happened once during that browsing session, and the page popped up elsewhere. This time, the ad page substituted the Name That Porn page, and it would not let up every time I kept clicking on Show all. I needed to click the "Stop Page Load" symbol to stay on the NTP page. This is not good, if it will keep happening.
Secondly:
One day, when you get the inspiration to add another improvement, perhaps it may be possible to link to an explanatory page from the Profile pages' "gotten upvotes/downvotes" section. I have found myself wondering what I could have said that inspired especially the naysayers... and it could be interesting to go to the source of our silent critics, or the complimenters.
