Let's RANK the Porn Eras (1970s-2020s) What's YOUR Favorite & WORST Era?

For the record, I do realize that "porn" existed well before the 1970s, but porn as we know it today really went mainstream during that decade, so that's where we'll start. Besides, I doubt anyone is gonna say the 1930s was THEIR favorite era of porn lol Lets begin >:) And here are some more threads below to tickle your anus a bit:

#6 1970s

To be honest, I haven't watched much porn from this decade, aside from a few movies here and there, and1978's Debbie Does Dallas, and what I saw from that..."classic"...didn't impress me. The chick who played Debbie was very beautiful, but everybody ELSE? Let's just say most wouldn't have made the cut in modern day porn to be sure. lol Too much hair (both up top AND down below), horrible music, terrible editing, and sex scenes that end in just a few mins make these the weakest porn decade for me

#5 1980s

DEFINITELY a step up from the 70s in terms of the looks of the performers, with them being attractive while having toned bodies, but aside from that, there's not much more that gives it an edge over the past decade. Still tons of hair (both up top AND...you know the rest lol), terrible music and poor editing. The sex scenes themselves were a bit longer, but not by much, so it get's 2nd from last place here.

#4 1990s

NOW we're getting to the good stuff >:) The 90s were a BANNER decade for porn, and I know many will say this was their fav, and it's hard to argue. Not only were VHS porn tapes easier to come by, but the performers now were nearly as beautiful as the ones seen in Hollywood (which definitely wasn't the case for the 70s and 80s). The music wasn't nearly as bad, and the editing was quite good and cinematic. But I'd say the best thing about the 90s was that the performers found out RAZERS existed and put them to good use. Hairz begone! lol The only negative of this decade was the overuse of plastic surgery. Many of the performers had the same look (fake tan, bleach blonde hair, big fake bewbs and NO ass), which is why I ranked it here and not higher.

#3 2000s

Everything I just said about the 90s could be applied here as well, only BETTER. The performers were MORE beautiful, especially the ones from the late 2000s who now had the confidence to appreciate their curves and natural bodies. Plus the production values went through the roof, with some films' budges rivaling that of mainstream Hollywood. Terrible porn soundtracks even faded away as the decade went on, and of course the best thing about the decade, the explosion of internet porn. Ohhhh this was a great time INDEED >:)

#2 2020s aka NOW

What's that? You thought I was gonna keep going in descending order? Well SURPRISE MOTHERFUNKER! I gotta keep you on your toes, my guy! lol I think modern day porn is FANTASTIC. Let me count the ways: The performers today might even be MORE attractive than what you'd see in a Hollywood movie, the production value of the scenes are as good as ever, the performers are actually GOOD at preforming, no dumb music ruining great scenes, live webcam porn lets you interact live with your fav performers, VR porn is a thing...for some reason (lol), and of course because of the internet, there's way too much paid AND free porn for the average fan to possibly get bored with. So...why isn't this #1, you maybe asking yourself? Well for one reason... ONLYFANS -_- I think it will eventually RUIN the porn industry, mark my words. For a more detailed reason to why, I suggest you check out my Top 5 Things I Hate About Porn thread (link in description) and I'll explain all about it, but spoiler alert, OF is #1 on THAT list lol

#1 2010s

There's not much suspense here, so I'll keep it short and sweet. Everything I said about the 2020s can be applied to the 2010s, except for one thing that gives it the edge, NO ONLYFANS lol And sure, I know OF technically started in 2016, so only half of the decade was without it, but it didn't start to KILL the porn industry until 2020, so screw that damn website lol And that's why the 2010s were KING >:)

Longevity is a strange point to raise. It's like when people talk about their fave films and discount a more impactful one bc of rewatchability. It's a separate argument. Lauren Phoenix wasn't in porn for 4 years but I don't think that is a factor in whether or not she's one of the greatest (I don't think she is, but you get my argument).

OF COURSE more porn stars will join OF. It's an inevitability, just as the woman who left bc of fan demand and returned bc of the seductive, life altering pay check. The part you never mention is that in the same position you'd be making similar moves. Tell me that given the option between excelling at your craft over a sustained period of time AND MAKING LESS MONEY or making stacks on stacks of cash immediately and getting to retire early that you choose legacy. This is the test that most fail even if you DO pass it.

I wouldn't have thought that Jada Stevens would be doing porn coming up to her 30's. Apparently she didn't either. Here she is talking about retiring, and this was 7 YEARS ago, well bf OF was a thing:

I would have thought that Alina Li would stay until porn got good and bored of her. I don't think, at any rate, that porn stars expect that they'll be doing it for decades. It's a young girls sport if I've ever seen one. It's like what they say about girls in Spanish speaking countries: They start by selling chiclets (no longer a thing, apparently), then they sell pussy, and end by selling chiclets. Porn is like ballet. Sometimes you have a Svetlana Khorkina, but in her case she was considered too tall and old (she was 24 at her last Olympics).

Exceptions like Cory Chase, Ava Addams, and every Milf lovers prime example, Kendra Lust, exist, but these women are notable bc they are sexually viable despite their age and the odds that they'd still be fuckable at said age. I'm always shocked when someone is still hot, like how Gianna Michaels and Kagney Linn Karter still look almost exactly as they did before (to be fair, they're just past 30 and started at barely 18, solidifying that it's a young game; you can retire and still potentially have a career if you come back within 15 years), along with Luscious Lopez (though she seems to have regressed sexually). If you tell me you'd still be into a recent day Bonnie Rotten I'll believe you, but most people would rather the most recent spin on the theme.

As a huge aside, I didn't appreciate how devastatingly hot Abigail Mac was. There was that famous car blowjob scene coming out of the rain, this one

, etc. She shared the same mental space with another girl who was slightly cross sighted (don't ask what her name was. I actively try and forget people whose porn I don't consume; wait...Chanel Preston, Preston Chanel?) and as such, I think I didn't watch any of her porn. Shame.

The only difference between a porn star and an OF girl is accessibility. Accessibility is a bad thing when people are unhappy about what you're doing, see August Ames' case for an extreme ex of that, or it's wonderful, unending praise. I tend to think that it is sunnier than shady generally, or else:

1. Women would be complaining en mass about the toxic nature of their interactions with fans.
2. At some point, the number of women committing suicide would compel any gov't to look into it. I've heard nothing about suicidal ideation or follow through related to OF and not a whisper about, 'The necessity of governmental oversight,' outside of deliberate attempts to put tongue into cheek. This is normalized. This isn't a porn star who couldn't handle it or a former prostitute who finally stopped fighting, which is how they're generally minimized.

Very true about Bobbi's motivation being the same if she were starting out now, but we have to remember that porn stars of the 90s and beyond had more than motivation. They had longevity as well. Bobbi's career was roughly from 2006-2013, which I think is rather short, but I can't imagine many performers starting their careers doing studio porn in 2020 will still be doing it in 2027. Not with the way the industry is going.

You mentioned Gia Derza, Eliza Ibarra, Carmella Clutch and XXLayna Marie, and while XXLayna may have started her career this decade, the others started around 2017/2018, well before OF became the place for performers to jump ship from filming studio scenes. But it will be interesting to see how long they stay filming studio scenes tho, which goes back to my point on longevity. I'm expecting Gia to announce any day now that OF will be the only place you can see her future scenes, and my balls will mourn that day indeed, because I'm not playing $20 a month to see her bang the same dude over and over again in a hotel room on her camera phone. And if anyone thinks my fears about Gia are misplaced, then just look at Kenzie. She too started her career around 2017 and announced last month that she's done filming for studios. There will be more of them to come.

You do make a good point about treating performers like they're our property. A female youtuber I was subbed to who started doing OF recently said that she quit for that very reason. The ppl subbed to her on there got possessive and would hate on her when she didn't do exactly what they wanted her to do, when they wanted her to do it, since they were paying an X amount each month. Add that to the list of the drawbacks of OF, I suppose. Once you get these kind of ppl subbed, you now have to KEEP them subbed to you, and that can be an issue. Now, she did announce a week later that she was getting back on OF, because she missed that sweet, sweet OF paycheck, but the point still stands lol

About the OF point. Yes, factually. But if you took Bobbi Starr and made her 18 again, she'd have the same motivation. Bobbi was also a classically trained cellist, so she was around the world for her skill as well as for her...sexual skill, so it's difficult to measure what her motivations were to start with? She likely didn't NEED to be in porn, so she could conceivably still want to be the best. Every time I watched a new Bobbi Starr Porn I'd say, "Bobbi, bitch." Her adventures in Brazil were legendary.

Is it holistically the case that no one strives to be the best? What about Gia Derza? She's running through the 6 right now. I've never seen so many back to back passionate 3 ways. Eliza Ibarra? I heard a funny story about her running out on a creepy fan after locking herself in a bathroom and frantically calling for an Uber, but that hilarity aside, she's doing OUTSTANDING Bobbi Starr levels of work right now. XLayna Marie? Carmella Clutch? I will say I notice that women have the same partners on the pro sites that they have on their OF; perhaps they go from one set to another?

1. They're popular enough to be in pro porn work.
2. They can promote their own OF.
3. They're right there.
4. The women might have chemistry with them and want to explore further, a point not partially presented in the previous 3.

Cam girls used to aspire to be porn stars. Now porn stars aspire to be cam girls and OF girls.

Reminds me of something carved into a desk in high school.

"As a rule, man is a fool.
When it's hot he wants it cool,
when it's cool he wants it hot.
Always wanting what is not."

If you want to take the most cynical position, you could argue that great performances are used to funnel their porn fans into OF, but I'd argue that porn is going the way of cam performers. No one cares if they burn out or commit suicide. You'll always have that one video of them happy, performing beautifully, and as a consumer, that's all most of us care about. In the face of that, I don't take such a dim view on performers looking out for their own best interests. It IS unfortunate from a consumer perspective, but that's to be expected since they're not "doing" exactly what I want them to. But then it starts to sound eerily like the comments by fans on reddit when Peta Jensen retired. It starts to reveal how we think of them as sentient possessions.

Belladonna was definitely my favorite porn star of the mid to late 2000s. When I watched my 1st online porn vids in 2010 on my Sony PSP, she was the 1st porn star I looked up. Along with Bobbi Starr and Dana Dearmond, they were the Unholy Trinity in anal porn back then. The stuff they would do to each other asses were I'm sure banned in about 68 countries, and would get them beheaded in 6. It's a shame that only Dana is still active now. They are all still fairly young and would surely show these tik tits wanna be stars how to really take a slong up the tailpipe.

You do make a good point about porn STARS in the 90s tho. Not to jump on the OF hate train yet again, but I think it's a reason why the 2010s might be the last decade we actually get any more porn STARS. Just think about what made the ones featured in the 90s-2010s great. They had a drive to be the best at their craft. They were competitive and wanted to outwork the next 18yo pretty face walking through the door to get to the very top of the industry. Who starting their porn careers in 2020 and beyond has that drive, I wonder? They all seem to want to do JUST enough to get them a big enough twitter/Insta following so they can then parley that into OF subscribers, so they can work even LESS.
#1757298
@WorldsBestPorn Belladonna is godlike. I recently saw an AI enhanced behind the scenes with her and Brianna Love. She stopped the scene to blow a young James Deen. And I almost forgot that she is one of the most lights out deep throaters of all time. You remember when she fell in love with Nacho Vidal? THOSE were some crazy scenes. The baseball bat scene. The tranny scene. The epic face fucking sessions? She learned Spanish for his approval. It was an interesting lesson on what it takes to make someone of her sexual prowess submit.

Svetlana was also live. My fave at the time was actually a tall Russian girl named Jane Darling. She was blonde, a voracious deep throater, and loved anal. I was in love actual with Avy Scott and wanted 10 million babies with her.

We're around the same age, actually. I looked at what I assumed were 90's porno mags I bought (and hid) but they're actually 2002. Which still makes little sense, since I bought them as a teenager, and I was in Marine boot camp when I was 19 in 2001.

Still, since we're talking about things we wish were made available and only having access to porn rarely at the time, I remember Al Bernstein had a public access show where he ate pussy and interviewed women. It was fantastic. He talked about how their are fewer joys greater than making a woman cum. Lost to time, I fear. He died and the NYT said he took the romance out of sex. A guy who ran an adult review magazine and did a public access X rated show that was on at 3am, randomly, destroyed romance? How fragile must romance have been?

The 90s will always have a special place in my heart, but most of the porn I consumed back then was softcore "Skinamax" that aired around 11:45pm every friday and saturday night, on cable which was all a kid of my age could get my eyes on. I didn't see my 1st hardcore porn till the magical year 2000, so my memories of Belladonna, Aurora Snow, Jessica Drake, Briana Banks, Hillary Scott, Jenna Haze, and my fav Juli Ashton loom large in my mind. Night Calls with her and Tiffany Granath and Night Calls 411 with Crystal Knight and Flower Edwards were my 2 favorite shows of that entire decade. I've been begging someone to upload full episodes of them someplace online, but so far they have been locked up tighter than a nun's butthole.

1. The 90's. It's definitely colored by the fact that that's when I sexually woke up, but there WAS something special about the era. It's the last time we really had porn STARS; ultra famous women who sucked and got fucked on camera and known for that and only that. Tracy Lord did mainstream films, but you get my idea. You had Asia Carrera, Lauren Phoenix (tall, Canadian, perhaps closer to the 2000's), Jenna Jameson, and my personal favorites, Sylvia Saint and Kyla Cole (Megan Rain but Eastern European accent and larger chest).

2. The 70's. Deep Throat and Taboo are classics. Also, the 90's had a drop left over from the 70's in that you still saw pubic hair. It's strange, the modern day, in that you're told that pedophilia is a bad thing but you're fed a continuous diet of barely 18/16yo looking porn stars. That's Kenzie Reeves' entire appeal.

3. Now. Mina Luxxx, XXXLayna Marie, Gia Derza, Liz Jordan, Ivy LeBelle, Eliza Ibarra, Alexis Tae. Modern day you have a murderer's row of sexual dynamos. You'd be hard pressed to not find something you're into. If you're into muscular thick Asian woman in the 2000's, good luck finding it. Now it is but a link away. For ex: https://twitter.com/Queenie16_1/media. Queenie.

And yet that accessibility is a curse and a blessing, a Faustian bargain.

This is also, the first time I've noticed porn stars who have a, "dead in the eyes" look. A vacant, I was sexually abused for years, no one helped me, and I disassociated the same way then just as I'm doing now, look on their faces. It is disheartening.

4. The 2000/10's. Sydney Cole, Peta Jensen, a baby fat, 18yo version of Jillian Janson, a thick British ass featuring Ella Hughes, Paige Turner for that matter, Jodi Taylor (a naturally thick, tall, red head), Jade Jantzen, and Mia Melano (objectively one of the most beautiful women to do porn). Amira Adara is forgotten by time, but not by me.

Favorite eras of porn are heavily colored by, not necessarily nostalgia, but whatever makes you feel the most. I like the 90's bc I feel the most about it. I have the most complicated, I love it/Oh, how I loath it, feelings, and I think they call that either unrequited or true love.
