Why You SHOULDN'T Backup Your Porn Collection to Youtube (Weird Storytime Discussion)

NOT uploading porn to YT may seem like a no brainer to most, but not to me. lol I started my porn collection in 2010, and once I lost a Gig of porn when my desktop died in 2011, I decided I should back it up from now on, but WHERE? I needed a place that I could safely store my porn without limits, and the choice seemed clear, YOUTUBE. lol So from 2012 to 2018 I uploaded well over 100gs of porn to youtube as private vids. Everything was going great, but here's where things get weird. In late 2018, I got a copyright strike and one of my vids was removed. That's right, a COPYRIGHT strike for porn O_O Apparently one of the vids I uploaded was a solo webcam of this chick riding a dildo, and she had a copyrighted song playing in the background, so it got auto-flagged. Now looking back, I should have just let this strike go, since it expires in 3 months anyway. But as most of you know, 3 strikes and your channel gets removed. And if I could get auto-flagged on a PRIVATE vid once, then it could certainly happen 2 more times, so I decided to appeal the strike. And before you call me a FOOL for doing so, just know that I had appealed dozens of copyright strikes over the years, (but obviously for NON-porn related vids lol), and won every single appeal within 7 days, so I thought this time would be no different. Hell, there probably wasn't even a live person reviewing these appeals anyway, right? WRONG -_- Not only was the appeal rejected in just 24hrs, but my ENTIRE channel was terminated a few days later. That's right, my channel was TERMINATED simply for appealing the strike on a PRIVATE vid that had been ALREADY deleted. WTF Over 100gs of porn gone forever over this injustice. I even appealed the termination, but that was upheld too. If anyone knows anything more I can do to get my porn back, let me know. In the meantime, do NOT backup your porn to YT like I did. It's not safe :/ lol

Thanks. I'll use the free software from there to see if that helps, because I've tried a couple different ones over the past few months, and none has worked. I might have to pay for a more professional recovery tool if this one fails too, but I'd be more than willing if I get my porn back. lol

Oh, if the drive is on RAW, it means it's messed up, not that it's a different format. There are certain methods to recover the data, but I'm not familiar with them

Look up how to recover raw usb data is your best bet

Thanks for the info. How do I find out what read/write format my flashdrive is? I'm not very computer savvy, as you can probably tell. If I were, I likely wouldn't have uploaded my porn to YT in the first place. lol But anyway, when I tried to repair my flash using command prompt, it said the drive was "RAW", or something like that, and couldn't fix it -_-

@WorldsBestPorn

I looked through the posts you had and saw the flashdrive thing.
I have 2 256Gb flash drive sticks and I think the formatting just depends on the device that can read it, but I could be wrong, and I don't know if it's possible to reformat without corrupting your data.
You need to look up what read/write format your flash drive is in (is it FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, etc?). Did you try to read that stick on a different operating system, because that's a possible reason.

Also, it's recommended that you also back up your stuff to a hard drive or even an optical disk, just in case you lose the usb stick.

Personally, as I'm on a low budget and move a lot, I only use the USB, my computer, and MEGA.
USB imo is more reliable than a hard drive as long as you take care of it (I only use USB for backup, not for regular use). USB sticks can have 10 years lifespan if given moderate use and stored in good conditions, but if you use it only to write occasionally and don't constantly copy back and forth regularly, and if you take care of it, it can last longer.

Whereas hard drives are easily damaged and frequently fail in the 2-5 year range.

SSD are better than Hard drives, but are expensive, they're basically flash drives but faster.

Optical disks (like blu-ray) have long shelf lives and don't degrade as badly but are easily damaged if you don't care for them. They're really cheap but have limited storage capacity (max 50 Gb)

These are the conclusions I've come to, but I'm not sure if they're 100% correct:

For capacity per unit price (most expensive to least expensive):
Flash > SSD > HDD (idk where optical goes)

Lifespan (assuming low to moderate usage)
Optical > Flash = SSD > HDD
(Ok, technically HDD has a higher lifespan than Flash and SSD (flash and ssd use very similar tech) but HDD often fails before the theoretical limit because it has moving parts)

Durability
Flash > SSD > Optical = HDD

Speed
SSD is a speed demon, the others have acceptable speeds but aren't as good

Convenience
Flash and SSD are easy to transport without fear of damage. Optical can also be transported if you take proper precautious. HDD can be destroyed if you so much as bump it wrong

I'm not even going to talk about floppy disks...

Surprisingly no, that wasn't me at all, although it does sound like it. lmao None of my vids were auto-banned or auto-rejected, (aside from the ones that were longer than 15mins, but once I registered my account, that was no longer a problem.) It seems like my situation likely happened before his, since I had zero issues uploading to YT before 2018, and have been unable to upload anything to there since.

@aglinua

And that's why YT was so good to me back then. lol Since it accepts damn near very video format, every vid I backed up there would be ready to be viewed just like any other tube site. All I would have to do is go to my uploaded videos, search for the one I wanted and view it right on the site. Sadly, I don't even think it's possible to upload porn there anymore (likely because of my....incident. lol) Cuz a few weeks after my channel was terminated, I tried to backup my porn to a different channel, and that one got AUTO-terminated within days O_O
#1316450
@sgnl07 I'm not 100% sure but mega supposedly can't view your files which I would assume means they can't fingerprint it, so my guess is that as long as there's no direct link they won't know. But Idk I wouldn't risk it
#1316445
@aglinua I see. but for example if I download a file (call it File A) from a shared mega folder which then gets nuked for copyright. I then upload File A as is to my own private folder (without editing, maybe just changing the file name), would it be safe from further nuking further down the line? If mega has some auto scanning for uploaded files to compare signatures I guess it won't.

@Anxiousexy yeah I've seen that happen many times too. I don't know on what basis they choose to delete imported files. my crème de la crème I backup to external hard drives.
#1316427
Actually I had imported others' folders on my Mega drive using a public link various times without a problem, the files I had imported from get deleted and mine don't. The "only can download and not stream" thingy is due to other formats not being supported (such as .mov), Drive is full of glitches and I don't trust Google a bit. Safest way to this day is external backup which I do have
#1316421
@sgn107 technically Google Drive has a better chance of nuking your collection because they can access your files whereas Mega can only see them if you make the link public or used a public link to import the file. Bottom line is don't share your files as it's a very obvious breach of TOS.
I'm pretty sure you're allowed to back up your porn to the cloud, but if you share it, it's a copyright violation
#1316416
Yeah the problem with Google Drive is you need to have at minimum 720p because the player only does 360,720,1080 and also technically your files are visible. Mega also has the problem of me not being able to stream some videos without downloading them. As for getting nuked on mega, I'd suggest not importing directly from another mega in case that gets compromised. The better solution is to download to your computer and then upload to your mega (maybe even change the filename as well).

I do the same. as you@WorldsBestPorn I download at 720p maximum, and then edit out the boring stuff, so I can turn a 500mb thing into 200 or even 100 mb file. I'd be ok with 480 (I used to compress the file to that size) for general purpose but Drive doesn't support it sadly

@sgnl07 @Anxiousexy

Yeah, I'd use MEGA, but I heard that your files can just be deleted randomly, and you can even have your whole collection just nuked outright. I've been using Drive as my secondary backup since 2014, and main backup since my YT channel termination in 2018, but haven't had a single deleted file. Hell, even the GD account that was connected to the YT channel that got terminated is still up and running, (which I was honestly SHOCKED by. lol). However, uploading large files to it can be an issue, especially with my trash wifi, so I would always reduce the quality of large files to speed up the process a bit. My eyesight is pretty bad as it is, so why the hell does a porn scene I wanna backup need to be 4.8Gs and in 4k? lol
#1316390
wow, you found a rather creative solution for backing up porn lmao.

YT actually deleted one of my playlists because of TOS violations. I don't know why seeing as how the playlist had 0 files of my own and were nothing but various non-nude celebrity scenes.

I also don't trust MEGA for long term proper backups either, they disabled access to one of my backed up files (I think because it was imported from a shared drive that was closed due to tos violation). Makes me think they can just nuke anything at any time.

I would use external hard drives. USB drives are risky in case they get lost or mixed up with legitimate drives.
#1316350
Honestly cloud drive is an option for small files, like pics, not so much for videos which eat up lots of storage and take forever to load especially if you don't have a good connection. I want my files offline that I can access immediately
But for external backups you need some experience in dealing with technical problems such as viruses, and you need to be careful how you handle them
Anyways Mega>>G Drive

@Anxiousexy

Yeah, I'd say@aglinua is right. I don't trust external backups. Before I started backing my stuff up to YT, I tried backing it up externally first. I bought a 32g flashdrive to start off, but somehow LOST it in my house O_O Don't ask how, the damn thing seemingly vanished one day. lol And recently a different flashdrive just STOPPED working altogether -_- Whenever I plug it in, it says drive needs to be formatted first, so if anyone knows how to fix that, I'd be grateful :/ That's why Google Drive is the safest, best option I see right now. There's no risk of losing it and no risk of damage or malfunction.
#1316172
Until you spill mountain dew on the hard drive haha. Damn 200 gigs that's probably all you'd ever need as long as you don't go for 1080p or higher
#1316029
Back in the day when Mega was Megaupload they offered 200 gigs for free. Today there’s not a valid free option, best thing to do is store everything in an external hard drive, you pay 40$ just once and you’re set

@aglinua

Thx for the advice. I cried for 3 months after this happened to me. lol But I switched to using Google Drive in 2014. A free account holds 15gs, and I have about 12 accounts, so I'm all set. I just wish I knew about GD before I started using YT -_-
