Porn detectives, how do you solve all these questions?
Hi guys, I was curious as to how you solve questions? Do you already have a huge base of knowledge and can immediately identify stars and scenes because you saw them, or do you use other methods? What methods do you use besides memory, and how do you find your answers?
I'll talk about how I work. If I recognize the question vaguely but don't remember specific names and scenes, I try to go to sites I frequent and type descriptive things about it. However, otherwise, I use Yandex and sort through any distinguishing sites that look like they may have a name or a good lead. I look for similar clues and dates that may point to an original poster or someone who bothers labeling things correctly. Then once I've found either a name or a scene, I type it into sites like Pornhub, Xvideos, Daftsex, Pornflip, or Xfantazy so I can find the most complete scene to accompany or add to the answer.
What other sites do you use to find clues? Hopefully this makes all of us better sleuths!

Another thing we consider is that since we watch a lot of porn and stumbled upon some old ones, we want to solve them too (just for our sake).
This is for me: I usually research something I'm interested in, if it's disgusting and weird I usually avoid it (some members target the weird ones because others will not)
And it goes without saying, Yandex, Yandex, and more Yandex.
If Yandex doesn't help, and you want to find that same face but in another scene, then pimeyes is the way to go.
Once you find the name and sometimes just the scene name, then hit the official channels and then google, and you can usually find your full target pretty quickly.
In the end, it's all about the passion and the excitement of finally finding the target (which makes you think if we can be good detectives).

First off, I am unable to recognize faces so I usually go by distinctive features or surroundings when searching for real people.
I don't claim this to be the best way but this is what I do:
I don't know most of the stars/models/artists I'm searching for. How I work depends heavily on the type of question.
My favourite questions are the SFM/hentai fake game ad ones because usually the artists' work is very well documented so making high quality answers is relatively easy if you have a feel on how you can efficiently search on sites like rule34.xxx, gelbooru or sankakucomplex.
If it's from a manga I usually toss it into SourceNao and try to find an English source because I can't read Japanese and I guess most users here can't either.
If it's professional production and the site is provided I try to get the name by reverse image search and then search on the site to get an official link and more info.
For anything else:
Videos
First I check the comments and related videos if those can provide any information. If not, I take the questions thumbnail from NTP (Go to dev tools > elements > og:image meta tag in head) and treat it as an image. The same goes for posts with dead sources, as long as the thumbnail is usable you might be able to find an answer. I make sure to include the thumbnail in the answer for easier confirming.
Images
Reverse image search using yandex and google, google is much less powerful but is useful if you're searching for an image's oldest occurence.
If I can't get a name from there, I look for related images and reverse image search those.
Best case scenario is that I find a reference to an already solved NTP post that I can reference, otherwise I'll try to find convincing evidence for my claims.
If I can't find anything workable for 2-3 minutes, I stop searching and go for another question. This might sound short but I usually run out of searchable sources and terms in this time anyways.
The same goes if I can't find evidence but in that case I'll still leave a comment on what I could find out. Someone else might have more luck or patience.
For non-professional images, I usually avoid stuff that has massive amounts of results (especially those that made it into fishy ads or Russian prostitute scam sites), unless I get a clean/high-res version or a related image to reverse image search on google.
I've tried to search for sources by searching with words on google/porn sites before but in my experience that's mostly just a waste of time unless what you're searching for is very specific and distinct from other porn or professionally made. I might just be bad at searching, though.
Another thing that I consider to be very useful to build knowledge for recognizing things is confirming answers, not just the posts from the confirm thread but also from the "other related posts" section in the upper right. Another advantage of this is that you might find an unanswered duplicate question that you'll be able to answer with little effort.

Lots of layered reverse image search, little searching with words + recognition from other NTP posts.
