How Do Questions Become 'Answered'?

How Do Questions Become 'Answered'?

So, I'm really new to the community, and I've read the FAQ in the Support and Help section, but... I'm still not really clear on how, exactly, a post gets marked 'Answered.'

I mean, as a new user, there's absolutely no way you can mark a correct answer as correct because you don't have the necessary level. You can't edit or delete your own posts, at first. You can't confirm an answer as being correct for another person's post, until you reach a certain level. All of those are frustrating, even though I can see the reason for them being that way.

So, it's like... when is a question marked Answered? I've seen posts where there are multiple confirmations of an answer, but the post remains 'open.' How/when does this change? Only when someone of a high enough level to mark their own question as having been answered...does so?

Please, educate me!

How many point do I need to comment on solved posts? It was solved but no links were given, I found two sites with uploads of the video and want to add them.

@Jauri

The option to self delete only last for a couple days, I believe. After you must ask a mod to delete it.

I dont think you can delete certain post no matter what level some of my post say delete but most dont and i cant find option to delete some

@KastardDecade

It doesn't take long at all to go from level 1-2. Usually 3-4 answered questions will get you there. After that it takes a little longer between levels, but there's no exact number. I think only 5 posts can be answered a day for lower users, so I would try to answer posts with higher bounties if leveling up fast is what you want.

How many questions/answers/posts to get to the next level
from 1->2
2->3
& so on & does it have to be within a short time period to count or subject is not a matter of time per day?

@FilaFubu This is the closest to that kind of thread:

But posting here won't get your answers accepted faster. You'll have to wait for moderation activity to resume.

There's a thread for confirmations but is there a thread to directly notify the mods to accept answers?

OP
@NinNin -- Well, I can confirm that, at least at level 8, which I've recently reached (thanks everyone who helped!), I can now confirm answers! :D

EDIT: That is to say... I can confirm answers on questions where the user is registered. I still am unable to confirm answers on anonymous questions, such as this one, which was also one of my questions pre-regsitration:

Trying to confirm that question gets me the error message from before:
You do not have the privilege to accept answers yet. Be active, gain more levels! :)

I've seen levels 14, 15, 24, 26, and 151 confirm these anonymous questions' answers, though. Is it something like level 10,@Operator ?

@Blushie That's a question for@Operator

OP
Thanks to everyone who's posted with very helpful information!

Here's the problem... I've recently leveled up to 5, but I still can't confirm answers as correct. I don't know why! I've tried with a couple and I'm given the following error message:

You do not have the privilege to accept answers yet. Be active, gain more levels! :) #NTPE0115

And, see, I was trying to confirm an answer to a question I asked before I had an account, when I was just anonymous. But, no. It won't allow me to mark it as correct. I know I can't accept the answer, as I would with one of my post-registration questions, but... :/

So because of ALOT of spam, some of the original features, that were designed for anonymous users and lower levels have been turned off. That includes accepting answers. Ultimately the system supports IP based OP's and making an account was not needed.

There is minimal level requirement to get access to accept answers and there is a moderation department, who goes over the answers. Of course moderation team cannot get to everywhere all the time, so everyone would like to see more valid user based accepts. However, that is not that simple and quality would get a hit.

Therefore we are developing new solutions to make this more organic and natural. But these things take time! We battled hard to make performance better, and it is.

We are at the very final stages of finishing performance fixes, then moving on to user experience issues. This UX update, will contain mobile layout, new simple submitting logics, some degree of user based moderation and alot of other things. I cant go into details on the user based moderation topic, as we are not sure what we will do right away and what later. But our aim is obviously to the best site possible for you, it's just that doing things right takes time.

@Blushie An ongoing problem on this site is that very few OPs bother to accept answers to their own questions. This is a huge source of frustration for everyone.@WorldsBestPorn started a thread to address this:

Then there's the fact that the large majority of users who ask questions are anons who cannot accept answers. This is not to discourage you but to tell you how it is. On the occasions that the moderators do mark answers correct, they do so in large batches and active new users tend to level up fast.

OP
Aw, thanks,@NinNin ! I assure you, ever since I read the Support and Help entries on formatting answers, I have done my level best to follow its guidelines. I hope to reach level five, soon, so I can help confirm and also make sure my solved questions get Answered, as well.

That's actually the reason I posted -- I've solved several stumpers and I believe I should get enough to push me up and over to level five... But, the OPs are unable to accept/haven't accepted, and the mods haven't had the time to get to them.

I didn't know that mods picked up the slack on marking solved questions as Answered, though, until@WorldsBestPorn and you informed me! So, I know more, now. :D I'll just keep on keepin' on until I get there. :)
#634783
First of all,@Blushie , I'm pleased as punch that you took the time to read the Support and Help section!

To add to@WorldsBestPorn 's comment... Level 5+ users can accept answers to their questions. Those of us who answer a large number of questions would like to see this happen more often, as many OPs do not accept answers in a timely manner, if they do at all. The task of marking answers correct then falls upon the busy moderation team.

To level up, it's essential that you use correct syntax in your answer, as outlined in the Support and Help section, and to answer the question completely. If you follow these simple instructions, you will receive confirms from other users, which generally helps the moderators mark answers correct. While an answer doesn't need confirms for a mod to mark it correct, no answer is accepted without the use of correct syntax.

I hope this helps!

OP
Thank you! That is exactly what I needed to know. And, if I could mark your answer correct, I would.
#634761
If the OP has a reached Level 5, then their question becomes answered when they deem that someone's answer is sufficient, and they accept it as correct. If the OP is lower than Level 5, then a Mod will have to come by and accept the answer for the OP, (if it has a confirm from a Level 5 user), but this can take a while.
